The geopolitical and economic tension between the United States and China in a post-globalized world has moved global companies to mitigate their overdependence on China as both a customer market and production source. This lecture will present an overview of this risk mitigation environment and concurrent U.S. efforts to shape a broad strategic industrial and trade policy.

Most elements of counter-terrorism strategy address one of two different goals: disrupting the group itself, or changing the environment in order to make it harder for the group to raise money or attract recruits. Join Prof. Elizabeth Grimm, Professor of Teaching in the School of Foreign Service, as she addresses costs and benefits of strategies currently considered by the U.S. government in order to tackle the problem of transnational terrorism, as well the intelligence challenges inherent in those options.

There is a thin layer of life that exists between the sea and sky. This ecosystem, called the neuston, is composed of floating golden algae, strange blue jellyfish, purple bubble snails, and even open-ocean insects. In this talk, Dr. Helm will introduce you to this floating world, and share ways that you can engage in exploration of and discovery on the ocean’s surface.

The Mr. Georgetown pageant is a longstanding annual tradition organized by the Georgetown Program Board. It features seniors representing different clubs and organizations on campus competing for the title of Mr. Georgetown by dancing, showcasing their talents, and wowing the crowd. Each year during Homecoming weekend, alumni join current undergraduates at the Annual George E. Hamilton Alumni Debate. This unique debate allows for alumni of all ages to engage with current students in the Philodemic Society. The President of Alumni Philodemica presides over this special debate in which there is no seniority.
After the debate, the Hamilton Medal is awarded to the undergraduate speaker who best represented the Society by pursuing “eloquence in the defense of liberty” in their speech that day.
